Quick Answer
The dry season from May to October is the best time for adventure activities at Victoria Falls. Water levels are lower, all activities run at full capacity, and the weather is clear and warm. September and October are the peak months for white water rafting, with rapids fully exposed.

The Dry Season (May to October)

This is when Victoria Falls is at its best for adventure activities. The rains have stopped, the air is clear, and water levels in the Zambezi gradually drop. By September and October, the river is at its lowest, which exposes all the rafting rapids and makes the gorge swing views clearer.

June to August is the busiest period. South African school holidays and European summer travellers fill the town. If you can go in September or early October, you get peak conditions with slightly fewer crowds. The trade-off is heat, with October regularly hitting 35 degrees.

The wet season brings the falls to full thunder from around February to May.

The Wet Season (November to April)

The wet season brings afternoon thunderstorms, high humidity, and rising water levels. The falls are at their most spectacular in March and April, when the full 1.7-kilometre width is a wall of water and the spray column is visible from 50 kilometres away.

The gorge swing and bungee jump run year-round, so you can still get your adrenaline fix. Rafting shuts down when the water is too high (usually February to April). Microlight flights can be affected by afternoon storms.
