Victoria Falls Zipline and Flying Fox: Crossing the Batoka Gorge

What to Expect

The zipline is less about fear and more about the view. You are harnessed in and clipped to a steel cable that stretches 425 metres from one side of the Batoka Gorge to the other. Gravity does the rest. You start on one side, pick up speed, and arrive at the other side of the gorge about 30 seconds later.

The superman position, face down with arms extended, gives you an uninterrupted view of the gorge floor and the Zambezi River below. It is the closest thing to flying that most people will ever experience.

The flying fox is a separate activity at the same site. Instead of a horizontal crossing, you swing out over the gorge in a pendulum motion from a seated harness. It is gentler than the gorge swing but still gives you that stomach-dropping moment when the swing reaches its lowest point.

The Combo Package

If you are already at the site for the gorge swing, adding the zipline and flying fox is a natural next step. Most people find the zipline a welcome cool-down after the gorge swing freefall.

Requirements

The zipline has the same general requirements as the gorge swing. Closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing, no loose jewellery. The weight limits are similar to the gorge swing. If you can do the gorge swing, you can do the zipline.

The zipline is a good option for people who want an adventure activity but find the idea of a 70-metre freefall too much. You are always attached to the cable, and the movement is smooth and horizontal.
